What you will do

Did you know Cape Town has penguins on the beaches? Through a live video call, Gilbert will drive on the mountain along the coast in the Muizenberg area along False Bay. During the tour, Gilbert will talk about the history of Cape Town, the local culture and how South Africa went through a lot of political change but no social change. The contrast in local life will be clearly shown with a short drive going from the shacks in a township to the beautiful estates along the beaches. Gilbert will make a few stops along the drive:

  • Start with passing by the local townships area and the council estates

  • Make a quick stop at local residence's home (only when available)

  • Drive up the mountain to look at Muizenberg

  • Go to Kalk Bay Harbour to see the fishermen

  • End at St. James

It's an interactive session, so you can speak directly to Gilbert and ask any questions or recommendations if you plan to go there. You can also meet the other attendees of the tour.

Happy travels!

We loved our virtual tour of Cape Town with Gilbert! He was so personable and it really felt like we were in cape town with him seeing the sights and meeting the locals, even though we were on our couches in New York. Such a fabulous experience!!

The tour was very informative on the modern history of Muizenberg, the difficulties for people of colour during apartheid, the poor townships now where shops are built from sea-containers and the contrasting wealthy white areas. It was lovely to take in some of the local landscape from the arid areas around the city to the green mountains and the waterfall to the modern part of the city with coffee-shops and micro-breweries.

It was a true enjoyment to be taken on a tour with Gilbert. He has amazing hospitality and we even did a short break at the house and family of his old friend for us to truly experience local life. I don't think you can easily do that as a tourist going there. Gilbert has great energy, very considerate and happy to share all his many stories. Thanks for showing your side of Cape Town!

I really enjoyed seeing new places during the Cape Town tour that I probably wouldn't know how to visit myself if I was there. Such as urban and local areas. Walking around with a tour guide on a refreshing trip in a new place served as a nice escape of the workweek for me.

I’ve told everyone I know about how brilliant this tour was. We learned so much from Gilbert, who is SO nice and very knowledgeable. The tour has the perfect combination of history, the natural environment and the variety of places we saw was excellent. I don’t want to say too much about the content so as not to spoil the surprise for people but we had a totally unique experience that we will never forget.
